Serious young musicians often do every little thing to advance themselves except truly listen to music! Even well-trained college students typically have a poor aural grasp of basic musical types and ideas, especially those who fall outside their specialty or desire. The most typical are Finale and Sibelius, that are stand-alone notation applications, and Logic, which includes notation as part of a bigger platform with MIDI and digital audio. Some firms provide less-expensive starter versions or educational discounts.
